Planned Giving for a Great Cause… McAuley Ministries

Your Support of McAuley Ministries Makes a Difference Today, and in the Future

You may know the history of how the Sisters of Mercy began. It started with a legacy; a gift of an estate to Catherine McAuley from her foster parents, the Callahans.

With her legacy, Catherine surrounded herself with a group of like-minded women who had the desire to help the homeless and poor in Dublin, Ireland. In 1830, a house of hospitality opened on Baggot Street. Soon after, with the encouragement of the local Bishop, Catherine was able to start the Order of the Sisters of Mercy. Their mission was simple: To feed, shelter, clothe, educate, and care for the poor and homeless, especially women and children.

At our Ministries, McAuley House, McAuley Village, and The Warde-robe, the Charism of the Sisters of Mercy is performed daily with food, shelter and clothing served to the poor and homeless—our most vulnerable neighbors.

You can help continue these Works of Mercy with your own legacy, a bequest to McAuley Ministries. Through your will, you can designate a specific gift or percentage remainder of your estate to support our work into the future. Stocks or securities can also be designated as a planned gift. And when bequests are made to a nonprofit charity like McAuley Ministries, they can also help reduce estate taxes.

Bequests can be broad, such as supporting the general operation of McAuley Ministries. Bequests can also be specific, like supporting the McAuley House meal site, the education of the homeless mothers and their children at McAuley Village, or the operations of The Warde-robe thrift store.

We are only able to continue the work Catherine started through the generosity of supporters like you. Please consider making a planned gift to McAuley Ministries to create your legacy to help sustain what Catherine started. We are grateful for all gifts—no gift is too small, or too large.

Please consider making a bequest to McAuley Ministries when estate planning. It’s a great way to sustain our work on behalf of those who need us most.

For more information, or if you wish to let us know about your planned gift, please call Barbara Haynes, Executive Director of McAuley Ministries, at (401) 941-9013 ext. 303.
