CHILDREN'S FRIEND

AT McAULEY VILLAGE

ON-SITE CHILDCARE

McAuley Village provides quality, on-site childcare for children 6 weeks to 5 years old. Our BrightStars-rated center services not only our residents but the surrounding neighborhood of South Providence. Dedicated to providing the best in early childhood education, the center is run by Children’s Friend and is staffed by experienced and degreed teachers. Many members of our staff are bilingual and a nurse is available to provide support and to answer questions.

Our Child Care Learning Center operates daily, year-round, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and we welcome the families we serve with hospitality, compassion and respect. These are the same values we teach.

Families who qualify receive additional support and services through our Early Head Start and Head Start Programs.

HISTORY OF THE CENTER

In the late 1980s, the Sisters of Mercy saw a pressing need for single mothers to have safe, convenient, and high-quality childcare for their children. Without access to such care, struggling mothers could not move their lives forward. Dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and recognizing the need for children to have access to quality early education, the Child Care Learning Center became an integral component in the creation of McAuley Village.

About THE Center

McAuley Ministries is dedicated to offering high-quality education to the youngest members of our community. The McAuley Village Child Care Learning Center is a licensed child care provider offering safety, enrichment and a values-based education for toddlers ages 18-months to 3-years-old, and preschool children ages 3 to 5 living with the Village and the surrounding neighborhoods.

We have partnered with Head Start Providence, which is operated by Children’s Friend, to provide Head Start to children ages 3 to 5, and Early Head Start to children 18-months to 3-years-old. This partnership ensures not only a rich curriculum and learning experience, but also the early interventions that enable children to succeed in school and break the cycle of poverty.

In addition to our trained staff, the Child Care Learning Center is supported by volunteers that include, foster grandparents, college work-study students, students from LaSalle Academy, Mercymount Country Day School, and St. Mary Academy—Bay View, and corporate groups. Volunteer efforts enable us to provide basic educational building blocks, but also special events such as a visit from a petting zoo, building gingerbread houses, and Hasbro Game Days. There is an on-site playground and multi-surface play areas. The Center is located across from a green city park and playground, and within walking distance to a water park.

A registered nurse works on-site, and each child is provided a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snacks in order to full focus on learning, growing and experiencing what the Center has to offer. Our menu meets the standards set by USDA and is approved by the Department of Education’s Child and Adult Care Food Program.

To ensure the safety of both children and staff, the Center has 24-hour security personnel and is equipped with cameras. State approved identification is required for all drop-offs and pick-ups of children. You can read more about Children’s Friend at https://www.cfsri.org/.
